The Hamas rulers of Gaza have ordered two banks to pay out more than $100m in unpaid taxes and late penalties following a lower court ruling, AFP has reported. According to the court decision, $6m of the Islamic Bank of Palestine's (IBP) assets had been frozen and $100m from the Bank of Palestine, said a board member from IBP. The court also banned board members from either bank from leaving the Gaza Strip. "All banks in Gaza pay no taxes in accordance with an exemption extended in 2007 by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas," said an unnamed IBP board member. "The bank's legal department is preparing its response to this unjust decision," he said
